History timeline



1779

Heritage

It all started in 1779, when the Muller family became active in the shipping industry. Teunis Muller became skipper on the market ferry (beurtvaart) from Dordrecht to Zwijndrecht.



1918

Founding year Rederij T. Muller BV

Teunis Muller (1894-1968) was working on the tugboat for his father Leendert Muller until half 1918. Together with his brother Jan Muller, Teun started to rent the tug EN AVANT III.
Rederij T. Muller BV, known as Sleepdienst “En Avant” at that time, was founded by Teun Muller in 1918. Later on in 1922 Teun continued the business on it’s own.



1927

Muller involved in Zuiderzee Works

In this period Muller became very active in the project called Zuiderzee Works (Dutch: Zuiderzeewerken). This project is a man-made system of dams and dikes, land reclamation and water drainage work, in total the largest hydraulic engineering project undertaken by the Netherlands during the twentieth century. The project involved the damming of the Zuiderzee, a large, shallow inlet of the North Sea, and the reclamation of land in the newly enclosed water using polders. Its main purposes are to improve flood protection and create additional land for agriculture.

The American Society of Civil Engineers declared these works, together with the Delta Works in the South-West of the Netherlands, as among the Seven Wonders of the Modern World.



1946

Bridging the gap

Muller became market specialist in transporting and commissioning (swimming-in) of several bridges after the Second World War (WWII). One of the important landmarks was the Moerdijk bridge, which had to be restored. By the use of barges and tugs, Muller succesfully sailed in the several bridgespans over the river. This job was picked up by by the national newspapers and resulted in many contracts with the national authorities and local steel company’s.


1953

Flooding disaster in Holland

After the flooding disaster in 1953, the government started a plan of dams and dikes, known as the “Delta Werken”. Muller towed a lot of dredging equipment for the dredging company’s.


1975

Move into the offshore industry

Muller gets involved in the offshore oil & gas industry, Which was becoming a fast growing market on the Nordsea at that period. The towage experience within our company became a great value for the special towages of the offshore barges and major cargo moves within the ports and places.


1983

New steps into the heavylift market

In 1983 Muller acquired Hak Heavy Transport who was active in het heavy transport and lifting market in Europe. Because of this Muller got involved in transporting and lifting heavy and voluminous loads.



1987

Start-up of towing service in Dordrecht & Moerdijk seaports

Harbour towage in Dordrecht & Moerdijk area was included to the company’s activities


2000

Muller get’s involved in seagoing towage

By adding a newbuild seagoing tugboat to the fleet, Muller started to add a new activity to it’s marine services, sea going towage. The EN AVANT 5 was used for coastal towage of several dredging equipment and cargo barges around the North Sea.


2007

Expansion in the Heavy Transport market

By adding newbuild seagoing RoRo-barges, the 6615-1, 6615-2 and the 6619, together with the purchase of a large stock of RoRo-ramps, tools and plant, Muller have increased their added-value for the heavy transport market.



2011

Expansion in the Offshore

As the markets continue to shift, Muller decided to shift their focus of services into the offshore market. With the aqcuisition of powerfull seagoing tugs in the range of 30 to 70 tons bollard pull ( en Avant 1, 10, 20, 9) and the heavy lift barge 10033-1 Muller gets a stronger foothold in the offshore market.


2017

New Anchor handling service, by biggest tug in history of the company

With the purchase of the ASD anchor handling tug EN AVANT 30, a 120 tons bollard pull tug is added to our versatile fleet. At the time, it is the biggest ASD & Firefighting class 2 tug in Europe. The tug is used in a large spread of offshore services offered by Muller, but most important it has excellent anchor handling capabilities, which adds another service to Muller’s range of Marine Services.


CO2 footprint

RoRo Ramps, Winches & anchors

Muller maintains an extensive high-end RoRo and Wedges stock, in order to accomodate the most difficult load-outs and RoRo-discharges of all kinds of structures and cranes. Together with electrical anchor- and mooringwinches you can be sure each loading and discharge will be steady as a rock.
A short list of what we can offer you:

  • RoRo-ramps; lenghts available: 5M, 10M, 12M and longer upon request
  • RoRo-wedges; Both steel and wood wedges available
  • RoRo-coupling beams; to be sure the ramps and wedges are coupled tight
  • Mooring winches; from 10 upto 60 tonnes together with various lenghts of steel wires
  • Mooring anchors; all weights and types possible
  • Anchor chains all thickness and lenghts possible

Ballast & Electrical

Water is a constant changing factor, especially in tidal seaports and rivers. Muller can ballast all his barges to the exact height and trim that’s needed. No quay is too high and no bridge is too low. In order to ballast the barges Muller maintains a ballastpump fleet that is state-of-the-art in this region. Together with all kinds of hoses and connections, we move the water where it needs to go.

To run our ballastpumps, but also all other equipment such as lights, accommodation units and our mooring winches, we maintain our own power aggregrates. Our equipment list in short:

  • Ballastpumps from 30m3 upto 500m3 per pump
  • Hoses in various thickness and lenghts
  • Aggregrates from 30 kVa up to 320 kVa
  • Various electrical accesiories such as transformers and cables

Loadspreading & Support

Muller is able to support the heaviest weights in diferent heights. With load-outs it is generally required to stow the cargo at a specific height above deck, in order for the SPMT equipment to drive on and off the barge. Muller has various lenghts, widths and heights in steel supports to spread the load equally into the barge strong points. We have a large stock of HEB and HEM beams in different heights to make tailor made solutions to support your cargo.

A quick overview of our loadspreading equipment:

  • Steel heavyduty transport beams 20,00 x 1,50 x 1,10m
  • Steel loadspreading beams 11,40 x 1,00 x 0,30m
  • Steel loadspreading beams 6,00 x 1,00 x 0,30m
  • Steel loadspreading beams 5,00 x 1,50 x 0,30m
  • Steel loadspreading beams 2,00 x 1,00 x 0,30m
  • Steel stackable elephant feet 0,80 x 0,80 x 1,00m
  • Steel stackable elephant feet 0,70 x 0,70 x 0,50m
  • Steel stackable elephant feet 0,70 x 0,70 x 0,60m
